Luxe Looks: The Surprising Jewels of the SAG Awards 2023
We know to expect big jewellery looks at the Cannes Film Festival, the Academy Awards and the Met Gala, but this year the SAG Awards have stepped into the spotlight to surprise us. Let’s count some of this year’s best high jewels from the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards, like Zendaya in Bulgari, Jessica Chastain in Gucci and Amanda Seyfried in Cartier.
If we didn’t love jewellery so much here at KaterinaPerez.com, we might be bold enough to suggest that Zendaya’s mastery of high jewellery on the red carpet is becoming boring. But, of course, we’re obsessed, so we anticipate her appearances to see what Bulgari jewel to covet next! The first thing one noticed about Zendaya at this year’s Screen Actors’ Guild Awards, otherwise known as the SAG Awards 2023, was her pink custom Valentino Haute Couture dress adorned with 190 fabric roses. Look a little closer, however, and you’ll spot the Italian beauty around her neck: a Bulgari High Jewellery necklace with cushion-cut tanzanite, morganite and aquamarine drops in soft pastel hues. These sizeable solitaires are suspended from a row of 17 round spinels, coupled with 24 pear-shaped and 65 round brilliant-cut diamonds. She completed her look with a matching bracelet, ring, and simple diamond stud earrings.

The SAG Awards 2023 was clearly off to a great start on the jewellery front, and surprisingly, it only got better! Jessica Chastain arrived wearing a Zuhair Murad gown in a shade of bright raspberry pink, which naturally lent itself perfectly to the richness of tourmalines. As a Gucci ambassador, she wore a pair of earrings from the Hortus Deliciarum High Jewellery collection that feature two lion’s heads, mouths filled with heart-shaped rubellites, and dripping with what appears to be tsavorite garnets and diamonds in 18k yellow gold. She finished her ensemble with a tourmaline two-finger ring, presumably by Gucci, but this time in an intense shade of royal blue.
Recent red carpets have focused heavily on diamonds (just look at the Golden Globes 2023), but this award ceremony had a surprising jolt of vibrant colour. One of our favourite looks was worn by Amanda Seyfried, incorporating a lime green Prada minidress, a 1960s-inspired hair and makeup look, and a suite of emerald, diamond and onyx jewels from the Cartier Sixième Sens High Jewellery collection. She also wore a Cartier bracelet, this time with peridots, sapphires and diamonds to complement the tone of her dress. And speaking of Cartier, actress Meghann Fahy also opted for pieces by the brand, including a pair of Cartier Reflection de Cartier earrings with diamonds in 18k white gold.
Another standout look of the evening was British actress Emily Blunt, who teamed an Oscar de la Renta gown with a striking Bulgari Serpenti High Jewellery necklace. The piece has a large oval-shaped diamond set into the snake’s head, surrounded by rubies and diamonds in 18k rose gold. She completed the summery look with a Bulgari ruby and diamond ring.

And the hits just keep on coming. Look to Stephanie Hsu for Cartier High Jewellery with rubies, onyx and diamonds in 18k white gold, and Cate Blanchett for a currently unknown gemstone cocktail ring in the most sensational shade of deep peachy pink. Elizabeth Debicki wore a dose of perfection in the form of Galons Dior emerald and diamond earrings and a matching Tie & Dior ring; Angela Bassett shone in the Talisman drop earrings by De Beers, and Sheryl Lee Ralph opted for an unusual pair of Fernando Jorge earrings with interlocking loops of diamonds.
Two more ladies deserve our attention for their statement looks. Firstly, there’s the ‘First Lady’ of High Jewellery, Michelle Yeoh, who is known to like the finer things in life. She paired her usual Richard Mille watch with a pair of exceptional earrings by Moussaieff. They’re thought to contain 24.70 carats of fancy intense yellow diamonds and a further 11.08 carats of white diamonds. Perhaps they looked a bit ‘fussy’ when paired with her Schiaparelli gown, but she can certainly be forgiven, thanks to her impeccable taste!

Next, there’s actress Aubrey Plaza who, we will admit, hasn’t appeared on our jewellery radar much in the past. However, at the SAG Awards 2023, she pulled out all the stops with a suite of Mouawad jewels, specifically the ‘Joie de Vivre’ suite with diamonds and beautiful Brazilian Imperial topaz. The colour of these gems was the perfect accompaniment to her bronze metallic Michael Kors gown.

On the flip side, there’s clearly an ongoing and powerful trend for diamond line jewellery. Although we find ourselves drawn to the colour and extravagance of High Jewellery looks, there’s no denying the sway that elegant rows of diamonds have over the younger generation of celebrities. The poster child is actress Jenna Ortega, who continued her partnership with Tiffany & Co. on the SAG Awards red carpet. Italian actress Beatrice Grannò also chose the brand, this time a long, wraparound diamond sautoir that paired beautifully with a feminine tuxedo-style outfit.
Some stepped things up a notch while still staying in the realm of linear diamonds. For example, actress Danielle Deadwyler wore a Bulgari colourless diamond necklace with a yellow diamond drop to add interest, while model Cara Delevingne wore the De Beers The Alchemist of Light Midnight Aura necklace with 74.73 carats of diamonds.
There were instances when diamonds were a touch more interesting. Jenny Slate looked wonderful in a pair of matching diamond ear climbers by Graziela. Haley Lu Richardson amped up the sparkle in a suite of Boucheron jewels, including earrings and rings (including a black and white diamond zebra) and a bracelet.
And last but certainly not least, there’s actor and multi-award winner Ke Huy Quan. He’s been the star of award season thanks to his charming, affable nature and genuine joy at winning so many prestigious accolades. At the SAG Awards, he won in the style stakes too, this time thanks to a sharp black suit and a titanium and diamond brooch from the De Beers The Alchemist of Light High Jewellery Collection. This piece from the Ascending Shadows chapter is set with a 2.70-carat oval-shaped fancy grey diamond.

I’m sure you’ll agree that the SAG Awards were a happy surprise for high jewellery fans. So let’s see what the Academy Awards bring in a few weeks… perhaps there are more mineral moments to come!
