How you can thank her for the baby without words…:

In England, and throughout Europe, no long-standing tradition of this sort exists as such. Consequently, making a lovely gesture for your other half can comprise giving almost anything to celebrate a newborn baby, from flowers to a round the world trip. Nevertheless, almost any woman would agree that the most memorable gift will always be jewellery.

Wearing a jewel as a sign of thanks for the new life they’ve been blessed with is what the majority of women want to do. To save men the agony of trying to come up with a surprise, I have compiled a list of some attractive pieces for a similarly attractive price of less than £3,000.

Tiffany&Co 18K Rose gold locket charm – £710

What woman has never dreamed of receiving one of Tiffany & Co’s signature blue boxes?

A heart-shaped gold locket with the heart-rending words “I love you” serves as a particularly fitting choice. It can also open to display two photos of the dearest ones inside.

To make it even more of a personal statement for your loved one, you can have the name of your newborn child and the date of birth engraved on the rear side of the locket.

Georg Jensen 18K yellow gold pendant with a solitaire diamonds approximately .23cts – £2,250

Georg Jensen

Just as true love remains impervious to time itself, so the design of this pendant by Georg Jensen will never go out of fashion. Giving a present like this is an act of love which needs no words. As a symbol of purity, the diamond used in this design can symbolise the arrival of a pure, innocent child.

TOUS Girl (£589) and Boy (£565) pendants in 18K White gold with 0.11cts diamonds

TOUS

www.tous.com

TOUS offers a variety of little attractive pendants to celebrate such an occasion. These are shaped in the form of a little girl or a little boy and made from white gold with diamonds or yellow gold. When we see cute children we smile, so even after only glancing at one of these dear little ornaments a mass of positive emotions is bound to take hold of your better half.

www.theofennell.com

From the wide-range of pendants created by Theo Fennell there are two which would act as ideal gifts for someone on the birth of a newborn child.

These are heart-shaped and encrusted with glistening diamonds. The centre of the pendant holds a baby’s footprint: there is a choice between one made with blue enamel, for a boy, and another with pink enamel, for a girl.

Van Cleef&Arpels 18K Rose gold dainty bracelet with a cornelian heart – £990

Van Cleef&Arpels

www.vancleefarpels.com

Continuing the theme of hearts, we now turn our attention to the intricate work of Van Cleef & Arpels’ bracelet made from pink gold with a scarlet heart cut from carnelian stone. A gift of this kind would be tenderness itself. It symbolises precisely the tenderness one feels towards a newborn child and a young mother.

www.chaumet.com

As well as tenderness, young parents experience a wealth of other warm feelings. Chaumet brings these together in its “Liens” collection. This collection is founded on the feelings which those who are close to one another share, whether its love, friendship, or familial relationships. It includes rings, bracelets, pendants, and earrings made from white, yellow, and pink gold with diamond insets. You will always be spoiled for choice at Chaumet.

Another memorable collection is one by Cartier called “Love”, created in the 70s in New York as a symbol of the love experienced by those who had utterly fallen for each other. Feelings like that last forever; they are as everlasting as the three ring bands hanging from the chains of these pieces.

Cartier pendant with three rings: 18K pink gold, brown ceramic, and 18K pink gold ring set with diamonds, on an adjustable from 38 to 41 cm pink gold double chain – £3,050

Cartier 18K white, rose and yellow gold ring with three 1.5 mm width bands – £560

The “Trinity” ring by Cartier is a three-coloured ensemble of white, yellow, and pink gold, each representing one of the three main features of a long-lasting strong relationship: friendship, fidelity, and love.

Annoushka’s Eclipse engravable Eternity bands with pink and blue Sapphires in 18K Rose and White gold – £595 each

One of the more traditional presents to celebrate the birth of a child is a ring with a full circle of precious stones inset in the band. This continuous, shining circle can also act as a symbol of eternal, undying love. And what, if not undying love, would cause the arrival of a newborn child into the world?

Annoushka

www.annoushka.com

Jewellers offer a huge number of variations of celebration rings. For example, at Annoushka, you can find simple and elegant band rings of white and brown diamonds, as well as pink and blue sapphires. Either of these might be appropriate: the pink for a girl, the blue for a boy.

Eternity band with diamonds – £2,250

Lucie Campbell

www.luciecampbell.com

If the sex of the child is not known, you needn’t try and guess ahead. Instead, you can give a ring decorated with diamonds instead of coloured sapphires.

Amongst the pieces created by Lucie Campbell, there is a dear little ring with a line of round-cut diamonds that runs all the way around the band.

Each of these is painstakingly positioned in its own golden “cap” to keep every stone well protected from harm in the first tumultuous days of young motherhood.

Piaget Rose earrings in 18K rose gold set with 2 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 0.12 ct). Diameter is about 10mm

www.piaget.com

The blossoming rose is symbol of both love and joy, sentiments which are also shared by young parents. This makes a gift of Piaget earrings all the more meaningful as a sign of gratitude for your child.

Of course this is only a small handful of possible jewellery items, any of which you could pick to give to your loved one on an occasion such as this; I didn’t suggest the many options above £3,000.

The main things to give a young mother are care and attention, so whatever you choose as a gift, give her your love, care, and affection. That way, your family will live in love and harmony for many years to come.
