Eternal Bonds: Celebrating Connection Through Creativity with Mayiana

There are few things I like more than being contacted by a brand with a strong creative identity. It’s like being granted access into another world, where certain rules of shape, silhouette, and style reign supreme. Sometimes, I can feel the excitement bubbling almost instantly, especially when the jewellery on offer is distinctive and bursting with coloured stones. A few years back, I heard from Tatiana, the founder of Geneva-based brand Mayiana. She quickly filled me in on her vision, her key collections, and the principles of cherished relationships and unbreakable connections that underpin her ethos. It’s safe to say I was hooked from the start! Now’s the perfect time to get to know Mayiana, especially as new high jewels are on the horizon in 2025…

Some fledgling brands really hit the ground running and achieve great feats in a short amount of time. Mayiana was founded in 2021, and yet it has all the confidence and signature style of a business that has been around for far longer. A lot of this assuredness is down to Tatiana, who built her brand values around the “enduring bond between a mother and child” when her daughter, Miya Ayiana (now you understand where the brand name is coming from), was born. This life-changing moment sparked a wealth of ideas, all orbiting around the concepts of affection, passion, connection, and devotion. She also believes in the art of jewellery and its ability to express individuality and meaning that goes far beyond its raw materials. This is a sentiment we both share, and it served as a natural starting point for our conversation about Mayiana.

The brand offers a mix of core collections and unique pieces, some with the whimsical spirit of a young child (great examples of this are the My Light and My Affection ranges with dog, butterfly and rabbit shapes in vibrant neon hues). What really excites me, however, are the brand’s one-of-a-kind creations. Its pieces are innovatively and imaginatively crafted in a range of diverse materials, including titanium and aluminium, with either geometric, shield-like shapes or natural inspirations. “The collections are deeply connected to emotions and introspective research,” Tatiana explains. “Each piece tells a story, translating personal experiences, memories and sensations into exquisite design. From the delicate balance of shapes to the interplay of light and texture, every Mayiana creation is a reflection of profound feelings, inviting the wearer to connect with their deepest essence and carry a piece of their soul in tangible form.”

All this storytelling is expressed through gems, especially unusually coloured specimens, which often dictate the direction of designs. In the My Bicolor collection, for example, the “intricate dance between rationality and irrationality within the human mind” is told through asymmetric, octagon-shaped deep red and moss green tourmalines set in a pair of earrings with arrows of alternating pink and green aluminium. Tatiana explains: “In this collection, the fiery red colour represents the passion, emotion, and creativity that drive us to dream beyond boundaries, while the serene green signifies logic, reason, and calm, grounding us in reality.” The matching ring continues the story with a beautiful bicolour watermelon tourmaline flanked by diamond-studded aluminium anchored into a rose gold body.

A similar ring and earring set – the My Autumn collection – is said to “captures the essence of adulthood and maturity, drawing inspiration from the rich and transformative beauty of the autumn season”. Here, we find 18k yellow gold paired with green aluminium, diamonds and hexagonal greenish golden citrines, totalling 27 carats in the earrings and 13.60 carats in the ring.

As these pieces demonstrate, when colour is used in the Mayiana collection, it is often not quite what you expect. In the My Romance earrings, the typical deep purplish-blue hue of tanzanite is swapped for a wisteria lilac shade that brings femininity to a geometric concept. These gems are combined with carved white agate, lines of diamonds, and edgy talon claw settings in 18k rose gold – the perfect mix of soft and hard, delicate and fierce. I was also drawn to the My Geometry earrings – again with an asymmetric colour palette – with overlapping layers of pink sapphires and diamonds, leading the eye to emerald-cut sapphires in pink and blue titanium.

Elsewhere, in the Amour Pastel capsule collection, the pretty pastel hues of pear-shaped aquamarines and morganites sit asymmetrically in earrings, a torque necklace and a striking toi-et-moi style ring, accentuated with twisted ribbons of aluminium and rose gold. These pieces are not for the faint-hearted, although the brand is certainly not chasing diminutive characters! “The Mayiana woman is confident, sophisticated and deeply connected to her emotions,” Tatiana explains. “She sees jewellery not just as an accessory but as a form of self-expression—an extension of her inner world and personal journey. She is drawn to pieces that carry meaning, that tell a story, and that resonate with her individuality.”

Among its unique creations, Mayiana also offers a series of nature-inspired pieces. These aren’t delicate, realistic renderings of flowers… think bigger, bolder and more evocative. The My Dove Peace earrings are like the unfurled wings of a bird with pear-shaped rubies, round brilliant-cut diamonds and feathers of white agate tipped in pear-shaped diamond accents. The spindly pistils of a flower are reimagined in the My Firework ring with a 4.10-carat green tourmaline and 2.03 carats of marquise-cut diamonds set in 18k white gold and green titanium. Two My Butterfly rings also spring to mind, with the first crafted in 18k gold and blue aluminium with a 2-carat Colombian emerald and the second in 18k rose gold, pink aluminium, a 2.04-carat spinel and diamonds. Lastly, the My Garden ring captures a series of beautiful blues with a large 28.39-carat aquamarine, 0.76 carats of diamonds, and rich blue titanium.

With such striking pieces ready to be discovered, I asked the Mayiana team what they would want you, the reader, to know about their brand as it looks to grow globally. “We are independent with a bold vision,” the team told me. “We are striving to bring something truly unique to the world of high jewellery. Each piece carries a hidden message, a deeper meaning waiting to be discovered by those who connect with it. Through our jewellery, we aim to build a community of individuals who resonate with this philosophy—who see jewellery as more than adornment, but as a symbol of their own personal journey.”

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Mayiana will seek to strengthen its presence in both Switzerland and the Middle East, with shows in Doha and Riyadh already on the calendar. It has also recently announced a partnership with Alfardan Jewellery in Abu Dhabi, which will provide the perfect platform to showcase its creations to new audiences. And let’s not forget that new high jewellery collection I mentioned at the start of this article, which I am told has been a long time in the making due to the “extensive research dedicated to sourcing extraordinary gemstones”. If the brand’s existing treasures are a sign of what’s to come, I think there’s plenty to be excited about. Don’t you?
