Love Stories: Jewellers Share Their Most Romantic Commissions
Jewellers trade in love stories day in, day out. Whether it is an engagement ring for an excited young couple, an anniversary gift for long-time lovers, or a first jewel for a cherished younger member of the family, jewellery carries so much heartfelt emotion. Yet this doesn’t make them immune to the romance of truly special moments. For Valentine’s Day, I asked six designers what the most romantic commission they ever received – or, indeed, made for their own loved ones – was, and why it left such a lasting impression on them. Here is what they had to say, in their own words…

“It was on that rock, that day that I was falling in love with you’. This is one of the 18 inscriptions on a gold bracelet I gave to my partner Peggy Grosz as her engagement ‘ring’. Tradition advocates a ring be given when getting engaged, and certainly, I could have done a ring to merit the occasion, but I thought the bracelet is so much more meaningful for us because it is so personal and private.”
“There are 18 inscriptions that read as narrative of our life and future together. Some are romantic, such as ‘I love you’, “’Marry me’. Some are supportive: ‘I’m there for you’. Some are humorous: ‘Is this a date?’. And some are naughty, which I will leave to your imagination.”
