Bright Colourful Watches: Perfect Partner to Summer Wardrobes

Women’s watches have moved on from function and formality to become playful, gem-set, trendsetting timepieces – and the latest swathe of jewellery watches have captured the essence of SS16’s runways, making them the perfect partner to summer wardrobes.

What’s the finishing touch for a sunset stroll along the Croisette or afternoon tea in the Hamptons? If your outfit is effortlessly attuned to summer, then so too should be that final, most elegant of accessories – your wristwatch.

Whether you’re wearing a scarlet red sundress or bold florals, the latest precious and bejewelled timepieces from houses such as DiorChopard and Patek Philippe masterfully evoke the colours, patterns and textures witnessed on this year’s summer runways. At Corum, iridescent feathers lay over the dial, protected by sweeping bars of diamonds; birds and butterflies have also been captured on the dials of Harry Winston and Bulgari timepieces, while Dior’s summer watch evokes kaleidoscopes with its repeated jewelled design – a subtle owl-like motif twinkling from the pattern.

Enamelling and invisibly-set gemstones demonstrate the density of the jungle and sweeping floral fields in timepieces by Ilgiz F. for Bovet, Chopard and Hermes. Hublot is playfully vibrant with its sportier Sugar Skull timepiece, while De Grisogono teases at our sweet tooth with its tropical, leather wrap wristwatch. Catwalk looks – from Chloe’s loose, laid back flowing skirts to Dsquared metallic sports utility – are beautifully matched with the colours and patterns captured by these women’s watches. Look closer, and you’ll always spot a tiny detail not seen before.
