Blinded by the Light: The April Birthstone Through the Lens of Diamond Pavé
Diamond is the birthstone of April, but its audience is never limited to Aries and Taurus: all jewellery lovers, collectors and designers are fascinated by its magic. You have probably noticed that to achieve a real wow effect, jewellery brands often combine outstanding stones with setting techniques beyond common aesthetics. One of the most vivid examples, in every sense, is the spectacular diamond pavé, where small stones are arranged into precious constellations. Let's consider pieces that showcase this method of craftsmanship in all its sparkling glory…
As you might have guessed, in April 2025, large diamonds are not my focus; rather, I'd like to talk about how designers can skillfully play with large amounts of small stones. In the broadest sense, the pavé technique is a method of setting tiny gemstones into a piece of jewellery very close to each other to create the illusion of a sparkling 'paved road' or 'carpet'. Each small stone is held in place with tiny prongs or beads to make the underlying metal invisible.
