The New Naturalism: How Nature Is Inspiring High Jewellery in 2026

Nature and jewellery have always gone hand in hand. Flowers, birds, butterflies, snakes – if it grows, flies, swims or slithers, chances are a jeweller has found a way to capture it in precious metal and gemstones. Yet despite centuries of returning to the natural world for inspiration, the possibilities are nowhere near exhausted, judging by the latest nature-inspired High Jewellery creations unveiled this summer.

Why does nature continue to entrance designers? Because it is complex, often miraculous and right in front of our eyes. There are the delicate curves of petals and leaves, the mind-boggling geometry of a spider’s web, the texture of feathers and scales, and a remarkable cast of colourful creatures, with no fixed rules about how any of it should be interpreted. A flower can be rendered with complete accuracy or reduced to a few abstract lines, while a butterfly can look as though it might actually take flight or bear very little resemblance to the real thing.
