Inside Mikimoto’s L’Eclat: An Exclusive Walkthrough with the House’s Senior Designer
Mikimoto is the undisputed master of pearl jewellery, and its presentation of the brand new L'Eclat high jewellery collection during Haute Couture Week in Paris was a powerful reminder of why. Over 50 designs were created to showcase the very best of the house's pearl artistry, pairing its signature cultured pearls with a series of exceptional coloured gemstones.
During my appointment, I was invited on a private walkthrough of the collection led by Mikimoto’s senior designer, Mr Yu Suzuki. He selected five fellow designers to create L’Eclat with him over the course of almost two years. As we moved between the vitrines, he revealed the stories behind some of the collection’s standout creations, from a 1930s archival design, reimagined around an exquisite aquamarine, to one of L'Eclat's most technically ambitious jewels: an extraordinary pearl headpiece.
