Heart or Head: The Ultimate Test for Gem Lovers 

Recently, I made a confession on Instagram. “I think I’m about to make a very bad decision,” I said, half laughing, half serious. “I found this rubellite… and my heart just stopped.” You know that moment when you see a precious gem and you just know it is love at first sight? It isn’t rational and it certainly isn’t calculated – it’s simply a reaction, but you cannot help it! This love for a gem consumes you momentarily, and there is no rational explanation as to why you need it in your life. You just do. This was exactly what happened to me and a rubellite from Filippo Gems at the GJX Show in Tucson.

Me being me, I couldn’t just fall in love with the ravishing red and walk away. Something stirred within me, and I could feel the battle between feeling and reason playing out in my mind. So, to rationalise the decision to buy a gem I had no plans to acquire before the Tucson show, I called a few trusted experts to weigh in.
