Flower Theory: The Summer Floral Obsession Sweeping Through Fashion and Jewellery
Christian Dior’s groundbreaking New Look, with its ultra-feminine corolla-shaped skirts, was rooted in his love for flowers and the rose-filled gardens of his childhood home at Granville in Normandy. Flowers, thus, became embedded in the DNA of the brand and are now blooming afresh in Jonathan Anderson’s SS26 haute couture collection for the house. Accessorising the pretty floral embroidered and appliquéd Dior gowns were pom-pom earmuffs comprising bunches of cyclamen and cascades of silk orchids that were clipped to the ears.
Anderson continued the theme into the AW26 ready-to-wear collection with colourful resin and pavé set water lilies fashioned into large earrings, ear hooks and brooches, inspired by the water lilies in the Jardin des Tuileries. Matthieu Blazy similarly has embraced the floral theme with his exploded chrysanthemum brooches and earrings in his debut SS26 Chanel collection, along with keshi pearl flower necklaces and earrings. Haider Ackermann added pansy corsages to his chic tailoring at Tom Ford and Miuccia Prada clipped big bunches of assorted plastic and crystal flowers to the ears of her models for the Miu Miu autumn collection, while Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent accessorised lingerie lace dresses with statement brass and gemstone bijoux flower necklaces and earrings.
